"Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man."
Proverbs 3:3-4 (KJV)
The verses in my series of Christian pieces are written in Chinese. Thanks to everyone who put in an effort to try and describe what this verse meant. Guess it's time to add a little more background behind the meaning of the verse.
In terms of the verse above it is best to understand that the coupled series of verses from 1-10 in chapter 3 of Proverbs describe blessings that come from knowing and trusting God. This verse speaks of keeping and practicing steadfast love (mercy) and faithfulness (truth) to the Lord which in turn should manifest in your actions towards others. To understand what steadfast love is you must understand how God loves. When the bible describes true love, it is the love God displays which is unchanging, unmovable, not prone to fluctuating "feelings" as the world would describe love, and displays traits that go past the normal selfish love that you see being described and portrayed in our world. (refer to 1 Corinthians 1-13) For Christians it means if you display a Christ-centered love within your life, you will not only be obeying God's command but in doing so will allow others to see and experience God's love which will in turn be noticed and will draw them. The same goes for being faithful to God. The word truth in its original context here meant faithfulness. Christians know Christ is the way, the truth and the life. Knowing the truth, you know to follow what is true. There are many examples of people in the bible displaying this trait through their lives (Daniel, Joseph, David, etc.). They lived by faith not ashamed to display their faith but also displaying the same love to others that God had displayed to them and the rest of the world. What is the most important thing to remember is the factor that this obedience and faithfulness can only come from a transformed life in Jesus Christ which in turn will allow the person to have the Holy Spirit work through them to display these values in their life. If you are a Christian, does your life display this trait? Food for thought
And yes I drew a guy what a rarity...

Your visual metaphors are outstanding, Genevieve. As soon as I realized the line of ink from the brush was literally writing on his heart and bound around his neck, I had to fave this.
Once again you've drawn a meaningful picture that symbolizes a passage. Keep it up, and praise the Lord for giving you talents to honor Him with your drawings.
I don't allow people to use my art without first explaining what they will be doing with it. Although I appreciate your willingness to give credit where credit is due, I would need to know what you want it for before I can say whether I would agree to its usage.
Love this piece, I am not only enjoying the artwork but also enjoying the blessing through reading the passage that brings me to a life to the fullest and to the truth. Thank you so much for posting this. Please draw more Japanese anime/manga style and with implying the Good News.
